God is love and He is a Spirit Who is Holy and desires to be worshipped IN SPIRIT and in Truth (see Previous Postings). All Creation was formed, made and created when God SPOKE WORDS and when Christ raised the dead, cast out devils and cured the sick, He also SPOKE WORDS that impacted and changed lives. Scripture says of its own words that they are alive, dynamic and are a spiritual weapon and instrument of Faith (Hebrews 4: 12). As we have read to Speak in the Spirit is to SPEAK WORDS FROM THE SPIRIT WHICH IS TO SPEAK IN TONGUES.
Wonderfully for us, God calls each Believer His Child — NOT an adult. This means that, like a child, He knows you and I will stumble and fall over from time-to-time — often when we perform something new for the first time. BUT don’t FEAR!! It is the holy spirit that gives the words to your mind and tongue when you step out in faith and utter words you do not know (and have never heard before in your life). GOD KNOWS WHAT HE IS DOING AND HAS ENABLED YOU AND ME TO DO WHAT HE HAS CALLED US TO DO: to receive the baptism of the holy spirit and speak in tongues the wonderful works of God — just like He has done for the Early Church, the Faithful since the Early Church, and we who now live in the 21st Century.
[Should you be a very nervous person who is not used to doing something like this DON’T WORRY! [23] But the hour comes, and now is, when THE TRUE WORSHIPERS SHALL WORSHIP THE FATHER IN SPIRIT AND IN TRUTH: for the Father seeks such to worship him. [24] God is a Spirit: and THEY THAT WORSHIP HIM MUST WORSHIP HIM IN SPIRIT AND IN TRUTH. (John 4: 23-24 KJV)
Even before Pentecost arrived Jesus Christ told His disciples that the signs which would follow His Believers will include Speaking with ‘New Tongues’.
[17] And THESE SIGNS SHALL FOLLOW THEM THAT BELIEVE; In my name shall they cast out devils; THEY SHALL SPEAK WITH NEW TONGUES (Mark 16: 17 KJV) Page 84 "Whose Will Be Done?" 3rd Ed (EXCERPT)
[2] He said unto them, HAVE YOU RECEIVED THE HOLY GHOST SINCE YOU BELIEVED? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost. [3] And he said unto them, Unto what then were you baptized? And they said, Unto John's baptism. [4] Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that THEY SHOULD BELIEVE ON HIM WHICH SHOULD COME AFTER HIM, THAT IS, ON CHRIST JESUS. SPEAKING IN TONGUES SIGN THAT A PERSON IS BAPTIZED WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT
[15] And as I began to speak, the Holy Ghost fell on them, as on us at the beginning. [16] Then remembered I the word of the Lord, how that he said, John indeed baptized with water; but you shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost. [17] For as much then as God gave them the like gift as he did unto us, who believed on the Lord Jesus Christ; what was I, that I could withstand God? [18] When they heard these things, they held their peace, and glorified God, saying, Then has God also to the Gentiles granted repentance unto life; [4] And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. (Acts 11: 15-18; 2: 4 KJV)
SPEAKING IN TONGUES IS A SIGN TO UNBELIEVERS AND IS THE REST AND REFRESHING GOD HAS PROVIDED TO THE WEARY
[21] In the law it is written, With men of other tongues and other lips will I speak unto this people; and yet for all that will they not hear me, says the Lord. [22] Wherefore tongues are for a sign, not to them that believe, but to them that believe not: but prophesying serves not for them that believe not, but for them which believe. (1 Corinthians 14: 21-22 KJV); [11] For with stammering lips and another tongue will he speak to this people. [12] To whom he said, This is the rest wherewith you may cause the weary to rest; and this is the refreshing … (Isaiah 28: 11-12 KJV)
DO NOT indulge those who argue against what Scripture teaches about Spiritual Matters. We are told that God does not want us to be ignorant of spiritual matters and we are exhorted to seek out spiritual gifts to bless and operate in our love to God and the Body of Christ. Words of men (especially from the religious) can be deceptive; the Words from the Holy Spirit speak truth and power - BOTH in our understanding and when speaking / singing in tongues (which is POWER given from God for His Kingdom!).
[19] But I WILL come to you shortly, if the Lord will, and WILL KNOW, NOT THE SPEECH OF THEM WHICH ARE PUFFED UP, BUT THE POWER. [20] For THE KINGDOM OF GOD is NOT IN WORD, BUT IN POWER. (1 Corinthians 4: 19-20 KJV)
If you are NOT seeing the Power and Spirit of God DEMONSTRATED in an assembly / church / fellowship / prayer meeting as outlined in Scripture then you need to find Believers who walk with God and Jesus Christ as Paul and other Believers did whose example is recorded in The Bible; all else is a façade and dead to The Calling of God to worship Him in Spirit and in Truth.
[4] And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man's wisdom, but in DEMONSTRATION of THE SPIRIT and of POWER: [5] That YOUR FAITH should not STAND in the wisdom of men, but IN THE POWER OF GOD. (1 Corinthians 2: 4-5 KJV)
SPEAKING IN TONGUES IS A SIGN TO UNBELIEVERS AND THE WITNESS THAT A BELIEVER IS A CHILD OF GOD — AN HEIR OF GOD AND A JOINT-HEIR WITH JESUS CHRIST (!) (:
[21] Not everyone that says unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that does the will of my Father which is in heaven. [22] MANY will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in your name? and in your name have cast out devils? And in your name done many wonderful works? [23] And THEN WILL I PROFESS UNTO THEM, I NEVER KNEW YOU: DEPART FROM ME, you that work iniquity (Matthew 7: 21-23 KJV); [17] And THESE SIGNS SHALL FOLLOW THEM THAT BELIEVE; In my name shall they cast out devils; THEY SHALL SPEAK WITH NEW TONGUES (Mark 16: 17 KJV); [22] Wherefore TONGUES ARE FOR A SIGN, NOT TO THEM THAT BELIEVE, BUT TO THEM THAT BELIEVE NOT … (1 Corinthians 14: 22 KJV); [16] THE SPIRIT ITSELF BEARS WITNESS WITH OUR SPIRIT, THAT WE ARE THE CHILDREN OF GOD: [17] And if children … HEIRS OF GOD, AND JOINT-HEIRS WITH CHRIST … (Romans 8: 16-17 KJV)
There are two ways of praying to God: (1) with your understanding (you understand the words you are using to praise and/or ask God for something, and (2) not with your understanding (you do not know what you are saying but are promised by Scripture that it is prayer and praise to God and when interpreted edifies the listener). Paul not only prayed with his understanding but also without understanding what he was saying (which by-passed any prejudices or lack of knowledge he may have had about a given situation or person — covered later re ‘perfect prayer’).
Such prayer in the spirit can be spoken as well as sung. I started singing in tongues as a child while swinging on a swing in my backyard but didn’t find out about what Speaking in Tongues really was from The Bible until I was 20 years old. Since that time I have enjoyed glorious fellowship with The Lord while Speaking in Tongues (and when I have interpreted what I have spoken in tongues the listeners have always been edified and blessed).
[14] For IF I PRAY IN AN UNKNOWN TONGUE, MY SPIRIT PRAYS, but my understanding is unfruitful. [15] What is it then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray with the understanding also: I will sing with the spirit, and I will sing with the understanding also. (1 Corinthians 14: 14-15 KJV)
Speaking in Tongues is always to God (NEVER addressed to the listeners when interpreted — otherwise the speaker has inadvertently prophesied which is a message from God to the listener which is another subject). To pray and sing with the spirit is to Speak and Sing in Tongues; likewise, to worship in the spirit is to Worship God in Tongues. When you Speak in Tongues your spirit can not only speak the ‘Wonderful Works of God’ to God (see Previous Posting) but it can also intercede to God which by-passes any biases or lack of information you may have about a given situation (or a person). The words are not your own — they are given to you to speak one word at a time in a language you DO NOT KNOW but which the spirit of God wants you to say (out loud or in your mind). Romans 8 states that the spirit of God intercedes for God’s Children according to the Will of God — many times when we do not know what we should pray, let alone know what is the Will of God for ourselves, another person, or situation. So why not desire to pray in the spirit for MORE EFFECTIVE AND GOD DIRECTED PRAYER? YOU CAN IF YOU ARE SAVED WITH THE SPIRIT OF GOD IN YOU and you OPERATE IT AS REQUIRED BY YOUR SPIRITUAL CREATOR. (:
[14] For if I PRAY IN AN UNKNOWN TONGUE, MY SPIRIT PRAYS, but my understanding is unfruitful. [15] What is it then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray with the understanding also: I will sing with the spirit, and I will sing with the understanding also. (1 Corinthians 14: 14-15 KJV); [26] Likewise THE SPIRIT ALSO HELPS OUR INFIRMITIES: FOR WE KNOW NOT WHAT WE SHOULD PRAY FOR AS WE OUGHT: but the Spirit itself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. [27] And he that searches the hearts knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because he MAKES INTERCESSION FOR THE SAINTS ACCORDING TO THE WILL OF GOD. (Romans 8: 26-27 KJV)
SPEAKING IN TONGUES IS PRAYING WITH AND IN THE HOLY SPIRIT WHICH EDIFIES AND BUILDS UP THE SPEAKER
[14] For if I pray in an unknown tongue, my spirit prays, but my understanding is unfruitful. [15] What is it then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray with the understanding also: I will sing with the spirit, and I will sing with the understanding also; [4] He that speaks in an unknown tongue edifies himself; but he that prophesies edifies the church. (1 Corinthians 14: 14-15, 4 KJV); [20] But you, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit, (Jude 20 KJV); [16] That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man; (Ephesians 3: 16 KJV)
[5] That in everything you are enriched by him, in ALL UTTERANCE, and in all knowledge; [6] Even as the testimony of Christ was CONFIRMED IN YOU: [7] So that YOU COME BEHIND IN NO GIFT; waiting for the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ: [8] Who shall also CONFIRM YOU unto the end, that you may be blameless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. (1 Corinthians 1: 5-8 KJV)
Jesus Christ promised that God would give the holy spirit to those who ASKED Him for it—then and now; Pentecost and in the 21st Century. If you currently do not speak in tongues and have not asked God to receive the holy spirit you should do so now as IT IS THE HOLY SPIRIT THAT BAPTIZES A BELIEVER (see earlier Posting) and ENABLES A PERSON TO WORSHIP GOD IN SPIRIT (and in truth). If you do not know if you are Born Again read the relevant sections of "Whose Will Be Done?" and pray the Prayer on page 46 of the 3rd English Edition (different page number for the Non-English editions and later Editions).

Scripture declares that one day Speaking in Tongues will cease, as well as knowledge and prophecies: [8] Charity [love] never fails: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away (1 Corinthians 13: 8 KJV). ].
But WHEN exactly will "tongues" cease and prophesies fail? Scripture says that prophesies will still be given in ‘The Last Days’: [17] And it shall come to pass in the last days, says God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams: [18] And on my servants and on my handmaidens I will pour out in those days of my Spirit; and they shall prophesy: (Acts 2: 17-18 KJV). Prophesies will still be given right up to and during "The Last Days". (And ‘Knowledge’ is still here with us.) Likewise, "Tongues" can be assumed to still be available up to and including "The Last Days" as there is not a single verse that states Speaking in Tongues is no longer available today (or that not every Believer in Christ can Speak in Tongues); all Believers everywhere — since the Day of Pentecost in Acts 2 — can expect that God wants them (and will enable them) to Speak in Tongues. (Speaking in Tongues is not salvation in and of itself but it signifies to the speaker and listener that a person is baptized of the Holy Spirit and has received salvation in Christ.) It is given by God Who wants such an act to be done by each Believer in worship to Him. Speaking in Tongues in The Church is first recorded in Acts 2 where the hearers heard ‘the wonderful works of God’.
[4] And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance… [6] Now when this was noised abroad, the multitude came together, and were confounded, because that every man heard them speak in his own language. [7] And they were all amazed and marveled, saying one to another, Behold, are not all these which speak Galilaeans? 8 And how hear we every man in our own tongue, wherein we were born?...; [11] we do hear them speak in our tongues the wonderful works of God.
